DISCLAIMER: THIS VIDEO IS FOR ROUGH GUIDANCE ONLY! Fitting a Smiths oil pressure gauge to a Morris Minor. The same instructions can be applied to any BMC 'A' Series engined car, and the general principles I suppose to any classic car. You will need: Oil pressure gauge mounting bracket (optional) fitting kit inc. nylon tube, washers, t-piece etc. selection of Whitworth spanners adjustable spanner possibly a drill and appropriate bits tub of Swarfega an old rag. Time for the job: 20-30 mins. Cost depends on whether you buy a new or secondhand gauge so anything from £30 to £100. Difficulty: 2/10 A note on oil pressure readings: on the 'A' Series engine at least, running in top gear at 30 MPH should give a figure of no less than 40 lbs. per sq. inch. Hot idle should be no less than 20 psi. Anything less than these figures means there is something wrong with your engine, ie you are using the wrong grade of oil, pressure release valve may be stuck open etc.
